Automation Architect and Practice Lead

Position Summary

The Automation Architect and Practice Lead is a senior position that will mature the automation practice and serves as the subject matter expert, provide technical direction, implementation, configuration, development and administration for equipment integration, automation, process / facility monitoring and interoperability platforms and solutions. This role will also be instrumental in establishing internal standards, processes, and a templated approach to routine consultation and development activity.

Key Responsibilities

• Institute functional leadership within the team that can translate the vision and create action plans to execute on vision.
• Supports the execution of IT manufacturing projects to advance clients’ capabilities in manufacturing execution, operational control, data collection, and reporting.
• Responsible for the design, and development of multiple technologies, including but not limited to:
• MES / SCADA / HMI (Opcenter MOM Connect, Ignition, ZnT PAC)
• Data Historians (Ignition Historian, etc.)
• Databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)
• OPC Servers (KEPServerEX, OmniServer, etc)
• Program and interface to equipment PLCs and HMIs.
• Work with control system networking communication standards such as Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, or DeviceNet.
• Responsible for automation and controls system design, specifications, programming, simulation, testing, as well as start-up assistance.
• Assist and/or create a functional description of the automation solution, such as the control scheme, alarms, HMI, reports, and others.
• Provide production support for systems deployed by the Manufacturing IT team.
• Train users to operate new or modified software applications.
• Validate and document system designs and changes to be compliant in a regulated environment.
• Lead the sustainability team on managing automation elements owned and managed by corporate IT.
• Assist with creating standards for equipment interoperability and communication equipment.
• Provide expertise in Data Historian administration, database queries, data historian content, validation, and reports design.
• Design and interface additional data sources with Historian.
• Work with internal development team to productize common solutions.
• Provides Mentoring
• Provide general leadership to Dhruv team in areas of expertise.
• Other Duties as assigned on a project basis.

Travel
• Be prepared to travel up to 25% of the time
• Travel required based on:
• Customer requirements
• Event Schedules

Certifications (Preferred)
• ISA – Certified Automation Professional

Application Accountability and Responsibilities
• Understand key components of Manufacturing IT Portfolio and how automation fits into the overall Digital Manufacturing Transformation strategy.
• Opcenter experience, specifically with integration of equipment and the Opcenter/Camstar physical model, process model, and recipe objects.

Skills and Abilities
• Proven ability to provide strategic direction.
• Strong Industry knowledge of Project Lifecycles.
• Strong leadership.
• Experience with controls or as an automation engineer- Certified.
• Experience with manufacturing information systems (MES, SCADA), manufacturing automation, or process control systems.
• Familiarity with manufacturing technology, such as SCADA, PLCs, and industrial communication protocols (OPC, Modbus, etc.).
• Experience integrating hardware such as barcode scanners, scales, etc.
• Possess a broad understanding of technical principles and theories within the Data Historian responsibilities.
• Experience in system administration and content development for conventional historian platforms.
• Experience in SQL Server 2012+.
• Experience in computer systems validation.
• Experience in reporting and query tools and practices.
• Hands on investigation and troubleshooting of databases issues is required
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail.

Experience
• 10+ years of experience in leading complex initiatives. (Required)
• Demonstrated knowledge in solution components and automation methodologies. (Required)
• Experience with SemiConductor or Electonic or Medical Device or Regulated Industry. (Ideal)
• Experience with Software Quality, Validation and/or Verification processes. (Ideal)
• Experience with Opcenter / Camstar MES deployments. (Ideal)

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in related Field (or the equivalent experience) plus a minimum of five years related experience.
